Building Blocks in Meta Advertising: My Journey with Jon Loomer’s Course

Building Blocks in Meta Advertising

Disclaimer: I’m not expecting a huge audience for these early posts, but I want to document my learning journey as transparently as possible.

I’m not sure how much real value there is to share as I try different courses, practice different things and basically just struggle through learning Meta advertising and keeping a grain of sanity along the way.

Yesterday was a bust. I was moving nicely through the Udemy course and then hit the snag where I couldn’t do what they said to do because it was no longer an option.

So I went into scramble mode and decided I needed to connect with a course or group where I could pose a question and get a relevant answer.

Building Blocks with Jon Loomer

The choice I picked was to try Jon Loomer’s – Building Block course. There were two options,

Buy the course outright for $97

Join the monthly club for $29

Since this is at least the third or fourth course I’ve muddled through with Facebook Ads, I went with the monthly so I could get some (I hope) live answers to my questions.

Typically me of course I joined on a Sunday when there is no follow-up – so I have yet to see “if” the Facebook group that goes with the course is of real value. In the past I have joined groups that were dead when I joined them, though of course that was never mentioned in the promotion.

At any rate my goal is to get through this Basic Building Block course as quickly as I can, learn as much as I can, before the month is up and then decide if it’s worth to continue on or not.

So far I think this is a good move. I have already learned that some of the previous advice was not on target for me.

Every course offers value and I definitely will continue with the Udemy course, and the Coursera course (Meta Social Media Marketing) was amazing but neither are helping me right now get over the hurdle of these first Facebook ad attempts.

Review of Building Blocks in Meta Advertising- Day One

Each building block consists of a short video that is two to ten minutes long. Written text and graphics provide a second learning point. Many of the blocks have added links under “Messages” to more content.

So far, I find it very easy to watch, scan the text and move on. Not sure how fast I would be moving through these basic blocks of Meta advertising if it was my first introduction to Meta promotion. I will say that I have picked up several useful tips and explanations that have clarified things for me already.

Tip One: A/B advertising is probably not as necessary for my beginning experience with the platform to get results. As this was what was holding me back with the Udemy course it was good to know.

Tip Two: “The performance goal is what defines success. It is, quite literally, your goal for measuring performance of your ads.” Jon Loomer.

Earlier Jon stated that conversion is the first step that allows you to select your performance goal.

Here are two questions he stated we need to ask:

1. What is your goal action that defines success? This is your Performance Goal.

2. Where do you want this goal action to occur? This is your Conversion Location.

Sharing this stuff out of context may not be that helpful but it gives an idea of how the course develops. I think for my first day I’m pretty darn pleased with my decision to jump into this course.
